“Medicare has at least $80 billion worth of fraud a year. That’s a full 20 percent of every dollar that’s spent on Medicare goes to fraud.”

This was reported by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. in an interview on the Aug. 24 edition of Fox News Channel’s On the Record With Greta Van Susteren. Not only is this important to the agencies supplying this service but the recipients of the insurance. Medicare Fraud raises health care costs and prevents many from receiving the products or services they really need.

In addition Medicare recipients may find themselves vulnerable to the people perpetrating this fraud.

In this episode Stephen Quindoza with IntegriGuard provides vital information to help you protect your Medicare coverage.

When caring for an elder you want to make sure that not only do they have the care they need, but that they will be able to pay for that care in the long term. Whether that care is in their own home, in an assisted living facility or in a skilled nursing facility those costs can mount up quickly. There are many resources and agencies that provide funding for that care, but you need to get informed in order to become eligible.

This is the second part of our series. In this show Rebecca L. Berg an elder law attorney with Berg & Associates, continues to explain the seven different ways an elder can qualify in order to be eligible for Medicaid. She also describes how your elder can keep certain assets while still qualifying for Medicaid benefits. Preserving assets the elder may already have is critical in order for money to be available for that care in the long term.

When your a caregiver of an elder you may need to act on health care decisions, prescription drugs, or financial decisions at any given time. In order to be able to do that you need to what’s required by law. These decisions fall under the topic of Elder Law. These areas include but are not limited to: Living Will, Health Care Surrogate, Durable Power of Attorney, and Guardianship.

In this show Sarah R. Sullivan a senior staff attorney with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid not only explains these areas but gives scenarios why these directives are needed for a caregiver.
